MIDLOTHIAN, VA, August 21, 2024 - G. Thomas White has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. Mr. White is a distinguished professional with extensive experience in project and program management. He currently serves as the manager of infrastructure program services for the Virginia IT Agency (VITA), a position he has held since 2022. Prior to his current role, he began his service to the Commonwealth of Virginia as a contract project management consultant at the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) from 2017 to 2022. In addition to these roles, he checked off a bucket list item by becoming a minority owner of the Green Bay Packers in 2011.
Mr. White has demonstrated, throughout his career, a remarkable talent for assembling and leading effective teams and has established a reputation for excellence in managing and delivering complex projects in transportation, government, manufacturing, healthcare, telecommunications, utilities, and financial services. His ability to collaborate with executives, managers, employees, and external contacts has led to the successful formation and leadership of high-performance teams that consistently exceed expectations. He attempts to be the strongest advocate for his people's best selves and encourages individual excellence from his reports as well as himself. His project leadership skills were notably recognized when VDOT's Tort Claims Project earned a Governor's Technology Award in 2018.
Mr. White's career began in the military serving in the U.S. Navy from 1983 to 1987 active duty and 1989 in the Naval Reserves, reaching the rank of Aerographer's Mate 2nd Class, serving the country while assisting the downfall of the Soviet menace. Following his military service, he transitioned into the private sector as a systems engineer, first working at MCI from 1992 to 1995. He then served as a programmer analyst contractor for Qualex, IBM, and PepsiCo from 1995 to 1998. He then began a 17-year run as a programmer and principal consultant for the NTT Data Corporation, formerly Keane, from 1998 to 2015. Forgoing the life of a travelling consultant, Mr. White returned home to Richmond and served as a data operations technical project manager at Verscend, formerly Verisk Health, from 2015 to 2017.
Mr. White's academic achievements have significantly contributed to his professional success. He earned a Master of Business Administration with honors from the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business at Elon University in 2003 and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with majors in Management Information Systems and Accounting from Old Dominion University in 1992. His commitment to continuous learning is evident through his certifications, including Project Management Professional from Project Management Institute, Certified Scrum Master from Scrum Alliance, and Certification in ITIL 4.0 Foundations.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. White is actively involved in several industry-related organizations. He has been a member of the Project Management Institute since 2004, has served in all major Leadership roles as a Toastmaster for his local clubs and is also affiliated with the Mayflower Society and the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.
He attributes his overall professional success to diligent effort, developing strong listening skills and effective communications.
Throughout his career, Mr. White has earned many accolades, such as the Governor's Technology Award, and has been honored as an SBTDC Graduate Business Student Competition Award Winner. Beyond his professional work, he is dedicated to community service as the President, Vice President Education, Vice President Public Relations, Treasurer and Secretary for District 66 Toastmasters clubs and a project coordinator for NTT Data Global Volunteer Week.
Outside of his professional life, Mr. White enjoys traveling, golfing, woodworking and spending time with his friends and family, and along with his wife Marsha, they look forward to travelling and enjoying their planned (in 5-7 years) retirement while spending quality time with each other and their aforementioned friends and family. He will also continue his lifelong fandom of supporting the Miami Dolphins, supporting his multiple college teams, and staying near the top of his 45 and 30+ year fantasy football leagues.
