WESLEY CHAPEL, FL, August 21, 2024 - Carlos J. Rangel has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Hailed for his talents in risk management on behalf of the financial services industry, Mr. Rangel has distinguished himself through his latest role as a vice president of operational risk management at Citigroup Inc. In this capacity, he oversees activities that carry processing risks, which can potentially lead to financial loss or reputational impact, and develops strategies to help mitigate said risks. By ensuring that corporate policies, standards and procedures align with the best practices in the industry, as well as Citi's own risk management requirements, Mr. Rangel has been most effective in his role.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Rangel immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 2010. After finding work as a cashier at an Office Depot – during which time he worked part-time at a cleaning company – he began his career in financial services as a teller at JPMorgan Chase & Co. Realizing that there was far more to the industry than he had first suspected, he took advantage of the plentiful opportunities available to him and became a personal banker at Fifth Third Bank, after which he joined Citigroup as an international personal banking relationship manager in 2015. Since then, he has gradually advanced to positions of higher leadership within the company.
While living in Venezuela, Mr. Rangel dedicated several years as an officer of the Venezuelan Navy. In honor of his accomplishments and contributions in this role, he was bestowed with the Military Order of General Rafael Urdaneta. Following this period, he served as the director of safety and protection for Grupo C7, a company in Caracas, before relocating to the United States.
Mr. Rangel holds a bachelor's degree in naval science from the Venezuela Naval Academy, which he obtained in 2001. Many years later, he received a master's degree in business administration from the Business School of the Institute of Management Foundation in São Paulo, Brazil, in 2023. Throughout his career, Mr. Rangel is most grateful for the influence and blessing of several sponsors, many of whom facilitated his growth and supported him when he needed it.
In accounting for his success, Mr. Rangel credits his son, who is a source of inspiration and a constant motivation to serve as a positive role model. In a professional journey suffused with highlights, he is most proud to have risen from humble beginnings to his current work in the banking and financial services industry, which has unquestionably changed his life. Thanks to a fresh start in the United States, he was able to seize whatever opportunities he could. Looking toward the future, Mr. Rangel aspires to continue expanding the scope of his career, as well as assisting others in their own journey. A regular participant in the mentoring group at Citi, he is a deep believer in the importance of humility, as well as the fact that all success is a collaborative effort.
