Jamarkus Garrett Recognized for Excellence in the Fields of Technology and Cybersecurity

NEW ORLEANS, LA, August 20, 2024 - Jamarkus Garrett has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing on more than a decade of experience in the information technology field, Mr. Garrett has most recently distinguished himself through his work at Hancock Whitney Bank, a bank holding company with extensive operations throughout the American South. Working at the bank's New Orleans location, Mr. Garrett serves as an assistant vice president and operational risk officer specializing in technology, cybersecurity, privacy, risk management and compliance. In this capacity, he advises several business units and the corporate risk management group and acts as a subject matter expert to management, enhancing and streamlining risk management frameworks and ensuring adherence to industry guidelines. Collaborating fruitfully with various departments to mitigate risk for the organization since 2022, Mr. Garrett was recognized in 2023 as a NOLA Tech 30 honoree by NOLAvate Black, a career guidance service for Black professionals in New Orleans.

Prior to his work at Hancock Whitney, Mr. Garrett earned distinction as a dedicated Business, Information Technology, and Information Security professional across multiple industries in the Private Sector and the Federal Government. Having begun his career as an E-leaming course developer at the University of South Alabama (USA), he worked as USA to become a learning management system administrator, computer technician, tech services clerk, and webmaster for various departments and programs between 2013 and 2017. Following this period, he went on to serve as an IT Consultant for CGI, an assistant manager for IT and gate operations at APM Terminals, a senior technical analyst supervisor at Jackson Hospital, and a federal contractor and senior systems administrator for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He also led Technology and Risk Management consulting initiatives for CEB Consulting Solutions, LLC for local, state, and small businesses. Departing from his last role in 2022, he subsequently joined Hancock Whitney.

After earning an associate degree at Wallace Community College, Mr. Garrett studied business administration and information technology at Columbia Southern University, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science. Eminently qualified in his field, he has received numerous designations of importance in his field, including as a Certified Risk and Compliance Management Professional and Certified Information Systems Risk and Compliance Professional via the International Association of Risk and Compliance Professionals (IARCP). He is also certified to deal with ransomware by the International Compliance Association and in cybersecurity by the International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC2).

To remain aware of developments in the field, Mr. GatTett has maintained his membership with several relevant organizations, including IARCP, ISC2, the American Bankers Association and the Risk Management Association. He also been appointed to sit on the advisory board for the SANS Institute's cybersecurity leadership summit. Outside of professional considerations, his active involvement in community service, including career fairs, mentorship program, and internships, demonstrates his commitment to empowering young professionals to excel in the technology and cybersecurity field in their own right.

In accounting for his success, Mr. Garrett largely credits the guidance and suppmt he received from various mentors throughout his career- including his mother, whose passion for learning greatly influenced his dedication to continuing education. A great believer in the imp01tance of giving back, he seeks to pay it forward and foster the professional growth of those who might seek to follow his example, and remains dedicated to serving as a mentor in the years to come.

Looking toward the future, he aims to reach a C-suite level position and possibly establish a nonprofit organization to further support his community service efforts. Additionally, he hopes to create the resources necessary to assist children whose parents may not have the means to provide for their education and general well-being, such as offering food, clothing, and other necessities for those less fortunate.
