TROY, MI, August 13, 2024 - Grantham Thomas Spencer has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. Mr. Spencer, a distinguished professional in the mortgage industry, has dedicated more than 20 years to the field of mortgage lending. A mortgage branch manager with Michigan First Credit Union for the past six years, he also serves as president of the Southeast Chapter of the Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association. In his role with Michigan First, Mr. Spencer leads and instructs a team of loan officers, ensuring the smooth operation of business activities. Additionally, he continues to originate and close loans for direct referrals, managing his referral base and overseeing the team's operations. In 2020, he received the Outstanding Leadership Award from Michigan First.
Mr. Spencer's entry into the mortgage industry started with Ameriquest Mortgage, where he served as an account manager from 2002 to 2003. Subsequently, he joined Quicken Loans as director of mortgage banking from 2003 to 2007, where he earned several accolades, including the Magnus Award and Platinum Banker Award. From 2008 to 2015, Mr. Spencer served as a mortgage banking consultant at Citi, earning the Rising Star award in 2008 and being named Mortgage Consultant of the Year by Citibank. In 2015, Mr. Spencer was the housing programs director at the U.S. Department of Agriculture before moving to Flagstar Bank as a senior direct lending officer from 2016 to 2018.
Before venturing onto his vocational path, Mr. Spencer earned a Bachelor of Arts in interdisciplinary humanities from Michigan State University in 2002. He furthered his education at Walsh College in Troy, Michigan, earning both a Master of Science in finance and an MBA in Finance in 2010.
In addition to his formal education, Mr. Spencer holds several certifications that underscore his expertise. He attained the Certified Mortgage Banker designation (CMB®) from the Mortgage Bankers Association in 2022, a prestigious honor held by only 983 individuals out of approximately 350,000 professionals in the mortgage industry. He also holds a limited real estate appraiser certification from the Bureau of Professional Licensing, is a registered medical sales representative through the National Association of Medical Sales Representatives, and possesses a nationwide mortgage license from the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System. In addition Mr. Spencer has also graduated from Quicken Loans executive management program (XO) and the Michigan First Leadership academy.
Mr. Spencer is actively involved in various industry-related organizations, including the CMB Society, the National Association of Home Builders, the Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association, the North Oakland County Board of Realtors, the Greater Metropolitan Association of Realtors, the National Association of Medical Sales Representatives, and the Mortgage Bankers Association.
Since 2015, Mr. Spencer, has been a course facilitator for DivorceCare, a divorce recovery support group. Other civic roles in his community include serving on multiple committees at the North Oakland County Board of Realtors, the Greater Metropolitan Association of Realtors, and the Southeast Chapter of Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association. He is also a past president of the Birmingham Business Connectors.
Mr. Spencer's dedication has been recognized through numerous awards, including Affiliate of the Year by the North Oakland County Board of Realtors in 2024.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Mr. Spencer enjoys landscaping and the fine arts. Looking ahead, he aims to attain the position of chief mortgage lending officer within a prominent mortgage group. He attributes his success to his deep passion for creating meaningful change in others' lives and credits his mother, who raised him as a single parent, for instilling in him a commitment to education through her own dedication as a public school teacher for over four decades. He also equally credits his drive for success to his wife Jeanine, who continues to be his biggest fan.
