ROCHESTER, NY, August 01, 2024 - Dr. Mohammad Shadab has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Shadab is a distinguished staff scientist at the University of Rochester Medical Center, having served the institution in this position since 2019. With a deep expertise in biochemistry, he has made notable strides in understanding the mechanisms of acute lung injury during sepsis and certain bacterial infections, which have improved the treatment and lives of many patients.
Dr. Shadab's journey began in India, where he earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry and a master's degree in biotechnology. He furthered his education by obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry from the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology in Kolkata, India, in 2017. His doctoral research focused on the immunology of Leishmaniasis, a disease prevalent in tropical regions as well as parts of the United States and Europe.
Following his PhD, Dr. Shadab relocated to the United States to conduct postdoctoral studies on skin cancer at a laboratory in Birmingham, Alabama. During this period, he collaborated with chemical scientists to produce analogs and assess their activity on various skin cancer cell lines. This collaboration resulted in a published paper in Marine Drugs, which was recognized as a featured work.
In 2019, Dr. Shadab joined the University of Rochester Medical Center, where his research has significantly contributed to the understanding of the role of autophagy — the body's consumption of its own tissues — in cell inflammation and barrier permeability in the lungs. His published works have further enriched the field of study, highlighting how autophagy can induce inflammation in these cells, potentially leading to lung leakage.
Dr. Shadab's achievements include being recognized by the Journal of Biological Chemistry as an editor-speaker and having one of his papers selected for the course collection award in Spain in 2017. He also received the Best Poster Award from the University of Rochester in 2019. Further enhancing his expertise are his memberships in esteemed organizations, such as the Shock Society and the North American Vascular Biology Organization.
As he looks to the future, Dr. Shadab is dedicated to advancing research on sepsis-induced lung injuries in particular, and other lung diseases in general. His goals include making groundbreaking discoveries about lung injuries and finding potential treatment options for sepsis, aiming to reduce its impact on patients' lives.
