SAN DIEGO, CA, July 30, 2024 - Janette Lea Van Dyke has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. Ms. Van Dyke has dedicated over three decades to the field of food and nutrition services, establishing herself as a leader in the industry. She currently serves as the Food and Nutrition Services Director at Scripps Health, a position she has held since 2000. In this role, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership, financial management and contract management skills, contributing significantly to the organization's success.
Before her current role, Ms. Van Dyke served as a director in long-term care, where she honed her expertise in managing the dietary needs of extended care patients. Her career began as a Director position with a private health club, followed by as a clinical dietitian, where she provided nutritional guidance and support to clients and patients. These early roles laid the foundation for her extensive knowledge and experience in the field.
Ms. Van Dyke's educational background includes coursework toward a Master's degree and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Food Administration and Nutritional Sciences from California State University, Fresno. She also holds an Associates Degree in Natural Sciences from Ohlone College. She is also a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, certified by the Commission on Dietetic Registration since 1995. Additionally, she holds several other certifications, such as ServSafe Manager from Scripps Center for Learning and Innovation and is Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) certified in health care leadership for mass casualty incidents by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Throughout her career, Ms. Van Dyke has been actively involved in industry-related organizations. She serves on the advisory board for benchmarking with the American Healthcare Foodservice Association and is an alumna of the Scripps Leadership Academy. Ms. Van Dyke also served ten years on Scripps' Group Purchasing Organization advisory board through, MedAssests, presenting Scripps' best practices across the United States. Her involvement with the Naval Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) and the Scripps Leadership Academy also highlights her dedication to leadership and service.
Throughout her career, Ms. Van Dyke is most proud of playing a crucial role as Operations Section Chief during the COVID-19 pandemic, managing hospital operations amid her own department's construction and the implementation of the patient Room Service Choice program. Her FEMA training was instrumental during this challenging time. Additionally, she has excelled at assisting corporate incident command and other campuses, developing system wide Visitor Screening Desk Protocols, and overseeing site inpatient/outpatient services, including completing daily incident daily briefings, procurement summaries, and assisting with the development of 100 day After Action Reports.
In recognition of her various accomplishments, Ms. Van Dyke received the Values in Leadership Award for Quality, Efficiency and Respect award from Scripps Mercy Hospital in 2007 along with a challenge coin for saving a co-worker's life in a choking incident and the American Express Award for Excellence in Customer Service in her career prior to entering the healthcare field. This gave her the background to later become a Certified Instructor for a 2-day Customer Service Course, Achieving Service Excellence, educating every staff and physician member at Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista over the course of three years.
Additionally, her commitment to mentoring interns within her organization has positively impacted many lives, fostering growth and development within her team. Ms. Van Dyke attributes her success to hard work, collaborating with organized and structured individuals and valuing diversity within her team. Her inclusive approach ensures that everyone feels essential and appreciated in their roles, fostering strong relationships that are vital to her both personally and professionally. Outside of her professional life, she is deeply involved in her community and enjoys contributing to animal charities.
Ms. Van Dyke values spending time with her family, traveling to her son's baseball games throughout the western United States, running, spin cycling and engaging in outdoor activities. Looking toward the future, she aspires to advance her leadership role potentially within a trauma center while continuing to grow within her current organization. She also aims to enhance her involvement in disaster preparedness and enjoys networking with various agencies and individuals.
