July 11, 2024 - PODS Local, a leading moving and storage provider, put together a few tips on how to have a successful garage sale this season. According to a survey from Decluttr and the National Association for Professional Organizers (NAPO), 54% of Americans are overwhelmed by the amount of clutter they have and 78% have no idea what to do with it. If you’re looking to get rid of some household items and make some extra money this summer, PODS Local is here to provide some garage sale tips.
Plan ahead – Start planning your garage sale and allow for enough time to sort, organize, and price the items you would like to sell. It is easy to become overwhelmed when you start going through the items in your home, so consider using a PODS portable storage container during the organization before your garage sale. It can be delivered to your driveway, and you can load and unload it on your schedule.
Organize items by category – Group similar items together to make browsing easier. Categories could include clothing, electronics, furniture, toys, and more.
Utilize display tools – Use tables, shelves, and clothing racks to display your items in an organized and visually appealing manner. Clear signage and labels can also help shoppers navigate your garage sale more efficiently.
Advertise strategically – Use online platforms, social media, and local classifieds to advertise your garage sale and attract potential buyers. Clearly communicate the date, time, and location of your sale to generate interest.
Know what not to sell – Be aware of items that you should, and should not, be selling. Examples of what you should not sell include used beauty products and broken appliances and electronics.
“Garage sales are a fun way to give unwanted items a new home and be more environmentally conscious when shopping,” said Steve Yapp, Owner for Local PODS Moving & Storage. “PODS portable containers come in a variety of sizes and help minimize stress when tackling a decluttering project. We hope these suggestions, and our services, can help residents maintain organized homes this spring and summer.”
Once your garage sale is complete, keep your space clutter-free by storing seasonal items off-site at a secure PODS storage center, ensuring your home and garage remain organized and stress-free year-round.
