John Scalia Jr. Celebrated for Success as a Statistician and Consultant

ALEXANDRIA, VA, May 21, 2024 - John Scalia Jr. has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Scalia is a distinguished professional specializing in statistics and correctional program management, with a long career serving in the United States government. After nearly 34 years, during 2024, he retired from federal service. Following retirement, he established his own firm, Azzardami LLC, providing consulting services to detention and correctional service providers to identify business risk, opportunities, and areas for operational improvement that will support strategic development and executive decision-making and performing quantitative and financial analyses to assess the cost efficiency of business operations. By leveraging his extensive experience in government, he hopes to strategically guide his clients to improved efficiency and profitability.

During his time in government, Mr. Scalia was a professional statistician employed by several components of the United States Department of Justice, to include 11 years at the United States Marshals Service, and the United States Judiciary. His tenure was marked by his significant contributions to the operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the federal pretrial detention program administered by the Department of Justice and his development of population projection and cost models. The methodologies developed by Mr. Scalia were audited multiple times by the Government Accountability Office throughout his career. They were relied upon by Congress to support annual appropriation requests for the federal prisoner detention program of more than $2 billion.

During 2017, Mr. Scalia was selected by NextGov and Federal Computer Weekly as one of their Federal 100, a prestigious award that recognizes the possibilities of Federal information technology and individuals who have made substantial contributions. Mr. Scalia was nominated by the SAS Institute, Inc. for his work at the Department of Justice. Mr. Scalia was recognized for developing econometric models to assist grant specialists with negotiating per rates paid by the Marshals Service to house prisoners in State and local detention facilities. Previously, the Marshals Service did not proactively negotiate per diem rates paid. According to a Government Accountability Office report released in 2016, Mr. Scalia's efforts resulted in more than $200 million in cost savings to the federal government over an eight-year period. The models continue to be used to be used by the Marshal Service, resulting in continued cost savings to the federal government. Additionally, throughout his federal career, Mr. Scalia was the recipient, or co-recipient, of other awards reflecting his exemplary performance and service and substantial contributions to agency missions.

As a foundation for his professional success, Mr. Scalia earned a Master of Science in Forensic Science during 1992 and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Psychology during 1989, both from The George Washington University. Beyond his education, he ultimately credits his success to taking a "critical perspective" to areas of interest and his dedication to providing policymakers with complete, accurate and reliable information to better inform and facilitate policymaking decisions.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Scalia enjoys the culinary arts, wine collecting, and – as a race enthusiast – collecting and driving classic cars. He is married to his wife, Jan; together they have a daughter, Constance, who works as a Forensic Accountant in Los Angeles.
