Before assuming his current position, he was an assistant prosecuting attorney and trial specialist at the same office from 2022 to 2024.
Prior to his tenure at the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office, Mr. Cotton had a private practice and was the principal attorney at Glenn M-D Cotton, PLC Attorney and Counselor at Law from 1997 to 2021 Beginning in 1995, he served as a judicial attorney for the State of Michigan, where he gained invaluable experience that would shape his future endeavors in law. His legal career began as a law clerk and court officer for Oakland County from 1992 to 1994.
Combining all his legal experience, Mr. Cotton has become an expert in defense and prosecution, particularly in handling sexual assault cases. He is most proud of his unwavering commitment to representing his clients with utmost dedication, a principle that has led to numerous successes in both defending against wrongful convictions and ensuring that perpetrators of serious crimes are brought to justice.
Mr. Cotton's academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Michigan in 1989 and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit in 1994. During his undergraduate studies, he was privileged to publish an original research study in the psychology space.
Throughout his career, Mr. Cotton has received various awards in recognition of his contributions to the industry. Having decided to pursue his passion for law at a young age, he became the first member of his family to establish a successful career as an attorney. He attributes this accomplishment to his passion for assisting clients and his ability to effectively represent them in court.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Cotton is actively involved in civic organizations that reflect his commitment to community service. He served on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint, was a board member and board president for the Genesee District Library and previously held the position of board president at the Eagle's Nest Academy.
