New Street Communications - a three year old publishing start-up based in Wickford, RI - will move into the audiobook field this summer. The firm, which heretofore has focused on digital and paper editions, will soon publish several of its bestselling books in the new format, with more to come.
New Street's first such offering (July) will be Lars Nielsen's popular Computing: A Business History, read by Smokey Rivers. New Street will follow this up in August with James Capuano's Beast: A Slightly Irreverent Tale About Cancer (And Other Assorted Anecdotes), read by Robert Brown. Both editions are currently in production.
Nielsen's book has been one of New Street's leading bestsellers over the past two years; and Capuano's memoir of cancer survival has attracted much favorable attention, racking up celebrity endorsements from the likes of Susan Sarandon, David Duchovny and Peter Farrelly.
Distribution will be through Audible, Amazon and iTunes.
New Street Managing Director Ed Renehan comments: "Sales of audiobooks have seen explosive growth over the past several years. The market has definitely tapped into the ease and convenience of acquiring and enjoying downloadable audio editions. For us at New Street, this is a natural way to grow our business by taking existing proprietary content and making it available in a third medium along with eBook and paper editions."
Renehan goes on to say that New Street's audio editions will be produced to the highest professional recording standards. "And we've got exceptionally talented and experienced voice-artists on tap for the narrations. Overall, we are very excited and pleased."
Audio editions are also planned for New Street's horror fiction subsidiary, Dark Hall Press.
