Bob Sims Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Engineering

BASKING RIDGE, NJ, March 14, 2024 - Bob Sims has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing on his expertise in high-pressure equipment design and analysis, Mr. Sims excels as a distinguished fellow with Becht, which provides international clients with plant services, software tools, and engineering solutions. In this capacity, he provides consulting in various areas including fitness-for-service analysis, fracture mechanics analysis, failure analysis, the design and operation of high-pressure polyethylene facilities, and risk-based inspections. Previously, Mr. Sims was president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, through which he also served on the board of governors.

During the early stages of his career, Mr. Sims gained valuable expertise as an engineering associate with ExxonMobil. Over the years, he developed a risk-based decision-making process and spreadsheet tool for optimizing inspections and conducted numerous technical quality audits of Exxon's engineering contractors. Likewise, he designed a pressure vessel and piping components for affiliate applications, including a 40-inch, 30,000 PSI reactor vessel.

Before establishing himself in the industry, Mr. Sims earned a Bachelor of Engineering in mechanical engineering from Vanderbilt University in 1963. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, he aligns himself with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Dedicated to his community, he contributes to the NNJR Porsche Club of America. Mr. Sims has also served as his local district's president of the Gifted and Talent Students Association.

Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, Mr. Sims has contributed to several publications and presentations, including "Optimizing Analysis Methodology for HPHT Equipment," "Application of ASME Section VIII Division 3 to Compressed Natural Gas Transport," and "Introduction to Risk-Based Maintenance and Inspection Planning." Throughout his career, Mr. Sims has been featured in journals like the Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology, and spoken at conferences at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the U.S. Department of Energy, and more.

Mr. Sims received the Melvin R. Green Medal and the J. Hall Taylor Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in light of his professional achievements. Similarly, he received various certificates of appreciation for his work. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in serving as president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers from 2014 to 2015. Looking toward the future, Mr. Sims intends to see the American Society of Mechanical Engineers continue to be recognized as one of the leading engineering organizations worldwide.
