An accomplished health system leader and physician executive, Dr. Babineau currently serves as a principal in the Academic Healthcare Division of ECG Management Consultants, a healthcare consulting firm. Prior to ECG, he was president and chief executive officer of Lifespan, Rhode Island's largest healthcare system and employer. He led the system of 5 hospitals and 18,000 employees affiliated with Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. In his capacity as CEO, he helped increase revenue from $2.4 billion to $3 billion, and outpatient visits by 116 percent.
Prior to his role as CEO, Dr. Babineau served as a general surgeon with a focus on cancer surgery in Boston academic healthcare institutions such as Beth Israel Deaconess and Boston Medical Center for more than 20 years. In addition, he currently sits on a number of startup company boards in the healthcare space.
Dr. Babineau earned a bachelor of science degree from the College of the Holy Cross in 1982 (where he graduated as valedictorian) and an MD from the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School in 1986. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in working as a surgeon as well increasing the size, scope, and quality of the healthcare system during his tenure with Lifespan. The cornerstone of his success lies in his work ethic and the lessons instilled in him by his father—a family practice physician of many years.
