WORTHINGTON, OH, March 13, 2024 - Edward L. Johnston has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Drawing upon 40 years of professional experience in security, law enforcement and civic involvement, Mr. Johnston currently serves as the president and chief executive officer of API Services Inc. In his position since 1991, he maintains responsibility for managing a team of security professionals. Exhibiting expertise in working as a police and security consultant for municipal governments, universities and private corporations, he is also a recognized public speaker and trainer on the topics of security in the workplace, workplace violence and investigations. Furthermore, he has served as a special deputy with the Madison County Sheriff's Department in London, Ohio, since 1991.
Mr. Johnston's pursuit of a profession in the law enforcement and security sectors was born from his intrinsic desire to help those around him, and he attributes much of his vocational success to his active community involvement and continued participation with various groups with which he has remained affiliated. Among them, he has served as the chairperson of the Central Ohio Community Golf Outing since 2004, a trustee of the Ohio Railroad Museum since 1995, and a volunteer with the annual ice cream social event through the Worthington Historical Society since 1982, among others. Lending his expertise to Leadership Worthington, the Worthington Resource Pantry and the Worthington Chamber of Commerce in past years as well, Mr. Johnston is a former member of the Rotary Club of Dublin-Worthington and a past president of the Ohio chapter of the American InterContinental University Alumni Association.
Dedicating much of his time to scholarly and academic efforts, Mr. Johnston is a past adjunct instructor at Columbus State Community College. Previously, he served as an instructor in criminal justice at the Tolles Career and Technical Center, multi vocational center, last serving as Chair of the Criminal Justice Program at Kaplan University from 1985 to 2012. He was previously active as a member of the American Society of Industrial Security between 1979 and 2019.
To prepare for his career, Mr. Johnston pursued an education at Columbus Technical College, receiving an Associate of Science in law enforcement in 1981. He subsequently obtained a Bachelor of Education in trade and industrial vocational education from The Ohio State University in 1991, during which time he concurrently worked in the security industry at several retail locations, hospitals and warehousing companies. Attending a police academy to supplement his career endeavors, Mr. Johnston also earned a Master of Education from American InterContinental University in 2005.
In accounting for his success, Mr. Johnston credits his passion for paying it forward. In the coming years, he aims to complete a Doctor of Philosophy in organizational leadership to advance his career to greater heights. In a pursuit into teaching and speaking to groups.
