Nancy G. Howell has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

LAWTON, OK, February 21, 2024 - Nancy G. Howell has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Howell is a tenured instructor who began teaching at the Great Plains Technology Center, a professional school based in Lawton, Oklahoma, in 1992. During her tenure, she taught five-week emergency medical technician (EMT) courses to soldiers who were being deployed. Since 2000, Ms. Howell has taught at the Firefighter EMT Academy, teaching approximately 15 students per semester and coordinating fire training for the campus. The program offers five to six certifications, an accelerated class, and covers Firefighter Level 1 and Level 2 and Hazardous Materials coursework. Additionally, Ms. Howell has been a field instructor at Oklahoma State University Fire Service Training since 2004, where she was notably responsible for developing curriculum.

Among her many professional accomplishments in education, Ms. Howell created a successful program that pioneered the first high school program in Oklahoma and eventually expanded into an adult program. She was also instrumental in modernizing the training program by introducing computer-based learning methods. Furthermore, Ms. Howell introduced the first hybrid EMT course in Oklahoma, through which she was then asked to implement a similar hybrid for the fire department to train their volunteers. This venture resulted in hundreds of volunteers receiving training statewide without having to attend 40 hours of classroom training.

Ms. Howell is a member of the Chickasaw Nation. She is actively engaged in her community as a volunteer and parishioner at her church, assisting with technology. Ms. Howell formerly spent 20 years as a volunteer with her local fire department between 2002 and 2022.

Ms. Howell graduated from Western Oklahoma State College with an associate degree in applied science and fire technology and an associate of science in liberal arts. She also received a Bachelor of Arts in education, trade, and industrial education at Oklahoma State University.

As part of her continued commitment to her profession, Ms. Howell is a member of the Association for Career and Technical Education and the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education. In recognition of her achievements, the Chickasaw Nation recognized her in 2023 as a Dynamic Woman of the Year. She was also named the 2021 Oklahoma Fire Service Instructor of the Year, the 2022 Postsecondary Professional of the Year, and was a 2023 National Finalist for Postsecondary Professional of the Year for the Association for Career and Technical Education.
