Mr. Schroeder's career began as a summer intern at Neumann Monson in 1991. He was hired for his first full-time position as an architect in 1994 and rose to serve as Vice President and Principal in 2000. Under Tim's leadership, Neumann Monson has grown from a local practice to a nationally recognized design leader.
The firm is committed to providing high-quality, affordable design solutions for small communities and elevating often overlooked building types, including community centers, athletic facilities, and public works facilities. Recently, Neumann Monson has emerged as a sustainable design leader, earning national recognition from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for Market One in Des Moines and Iowa City Public Works. The firm's portfolio also includes the Stanley Center for Peace and Security, the second renovation project in the world to follow the rigorous, self-sufficient practices outlined in the Living Building Challenge.
Civically invested, Mr. Schroeder has been an active member of the University Heights, Iowa City Council since 2021. Through Neumann Monson, he has supported Iowa City Shelter House with pro bono services. Projects like Cross Park Place and Project 501 have helped address homelessness in the area by providing unconditional, full-time housing.
Mr. Schroeder earned a Bachelor of Architecture from Iowa State University in 1994. Well-qualified in his field, he is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional and has completed Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program. He is also active with the AIA Center of Practice, serving on its advisory board.
As a part of his continued success, he has received the AIA Young Architect Award in 2008 and the Medal of Honor for a meritorious career from AIA Iowa in 2020. In 2023, the AIA elevated Mr. Schroeder to the AIA College of Fellows, the AIA's highest membership honor for exceptional work and contributions to architecture and society. Only 3% of the AIA members across the United States achieve this distinction.
