Highly regarded for her excellence in running clinical trials and conducting research, Ms. Klotz has been a research nurse affiliated with Bloodworks Northwest since 2021. Working directly with healthy volunteers interested in participating in research trials, she manages clinical trials from conception to development, integration, and the conclusion of each research study. She also communicates with patients, families, physicians, and other staff, and is heavily engaged in regulatory work, and ensures that all federal regulations governing research in the U.S. are followed.
Recognized as an independent, non-profit organization, Bloodworks relies on donations to support 95% of the hospitals throughout the Pacific Northwest. Through research, innovation, and education, the community-based organization has numerous laboratories, a core blood program, a research institute, and more to support its mission to save lives.
Ms. Klotz came from the University of Washington, where she spent over 20 years in a high-pressure role as a research nurse supervisor between 1998 and 2021 managing research trials related to trauma care, particularly in the field of neurotrauma, neurologic injury, and traumatic injury. Ms. Klotz has notably accumulated over 25 years of experience in clinical research and an additional 15 years as a clinical nurse. As a researcher, she has also published numerous works in her field of expertise.
Civically invested, Ms. Klotz has volunteered with an organization called STOP THE BLEED, an organization developed by the American College of Surgeons that teaches bystanders how to stop bleeding and save a life during traumatic events. She also conducts community presentations at the University of Washington and engages in community outreach and blood drives with Bloodworks and has been involved in a head and spinal cord injury program for elementary, middle, and high school students, teaching them about the brain and spine and the importance of protecting them. Additionally, Ms. Klotz participates in charity walks with her dog.
Ms. Klotz graduated from Wilkes University with a Bachelor of Science in biology in 1980 and From Cedar Crest College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1986.
As a testament to her hard work and dedication, Ms. Klotz received a Peer Reward and Recognition Award from Lehigh Valley Health Network, a Friends of Nursing Trauma Award, an Exemplifying Excellence Award from the department of surgery at the University of Washington, an Excellence in Care in Head Injury and Basic Trauma Care Award, and a Nightingale Award for Trauma Care.
