With more than a decade of excellence in public service with an emphasis on philanthropy, successful management of mission-driven organizations, as well as relationship building and networking, Mr. Cole has earned distinction as the principal and founder of P.T. Cole Strategies and Advising, a consulting and advisory firm for innovative organizations and leaders that want to be socially conscious and support pro-democracy efforts. Since 2023, he has focused his efforts on building brand awareness through networking and social media. His work is crosscutting including – collaborating with non-profit organizations, venture capital funds, and individual philanthropists. Mr. Cole works with environmental organizations, especially on the topic of climate change, educational organizations addressing educational issues relative to economic opportunities and reducing inequities in the K–12 system and philanthropic organizations in the pro-democracy space. In addition to his work with P.T. Cole Strategies and Advising, Mr. Cole also serves as the Director of Development for the Lawfare Institute, a nonprofit organization that produces nonpartisan analysis and reliable scholarship on issues at the intersection of national security, law, and policy.
Also dedicated to civic engagement, he lends his expertise as a democracy fellow for Learning Life, a project with that aims to improve democracy and diplomacy by spreading into everyday life outside of schools. He also previously served on the board of directors of the Coalition Against Global Genocide.
Before establishing his business, Mr. Cole began his career as a development assistant for the Kellogg Fellows Leadership Alliance in 2012 and was a program assistant and project manager for the Coalition Against Global Genocide in 2013. He then served as a legislative aide for the Colorado House of Representatives in 2013 and took a role as a development assistant for The Brookings Institution in 2014. He earned a promotion to a development coordinator in 2016 and to a development manager in 2018, becoming a development officer for the foreign policy program there in 2020. Following this time, he served as the director of investor relations for Unite America from 2021 to 2023. Later, he joined The Andrew Goodman Foundation in 2023 as the senior director of engagement.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Cole has extensive experience in fundraising, as well as research & policy analysis. He made significant contributions to the Brookings Foreign Policy Program by creating effective processes to streamline development operations, research & analysis of funding opportunities, and helping secure six and seven figure gifts. Through his work with Unite America, Mr. Cole worked in partnership with executive leadership to help build fundraising team and support highly successfully donor community investing millions in democracy reform.
While developing his professional journey, Mr. Cole earned a Bachelor of international studies from the University of Denver in 2011. Well-qualified in his field, he attained a graduate certificate in non-profit management and leadership from the University of Maryland in 2021. The same year, he also received a "Do Good Graduate" Award for Commitment to Social Impact and Innovation from the University of Maryland.
Within the coming years, Mr. Cole aims to identify the intersecting landscape between different social movements and philanthropic priorities and make the results freely and publicly accessible to other organizations, non-profits and individuals to help build more socially conscious and equitable world. He also provides philanthropic advisory services, landscape analysis, fundraising and grant management review, and other management consulting services. He is dedicated to helping others despite his own challenges with cerebral palsy, drawing on his own experiences of struggling to navigate the world in a way that most take for granted. Additionally, as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, he is acutely aware of the discrimination that many individuals face and he is determined to take action to combat it.
