THIBODAUX, LA, November 17, 2023 - Mistie P. Lasseigne has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all considered during the selection process.
With 20 years of practiced experience in early childhood education, Dr. Lasseigne is a leader in the academic world for her work as Executive Director of Early Childhood Initiatives at Nicholls State University. She credits her success to her parents, husband, children, and closest friends who have supported her in becoming a first-generation college graduate, an educator and mentor for pre-service teachers, and an advocate for enhancing the field of early childhood education.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Lasseigne obtained two associate degrees - one in early childhood education and one in general studies. After gaining field-based experiences within a local school district as well as a local childcare center, she returned to post-secondary education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Birth-to-Five Early Intervention followed by a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction specializing in Early Childhood Education, both from Nicholls State University. Continuing her studies, she obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Curriculum and Instruction specializing in Early Childhood Education in 2019 from Louisiana State University.
Since joining the Nicholls State University faculty in 2016, Dr. Lasseigne has served as an Assistant Professor for the university's Birth-to-Five Early Intervention undergraduate program, a supervisor and mentor to student teachers and residents, and Executive Director of Little Colonels Academy – the university's early learning center. Many of her responsibilities included teaching undergraduate-level Birth-to-Five Early Intervention courses, serving as a field observer for students engaging in clinical experiences within local school districts and early learning centers, serving on several departmental committees – including departmental national accreditation committees, and working to enhance the services provided within Little Colonels Academy. Her efforts with the university resulted in her winning a 2019 Teaching Excellence Award.
Among her many career accomplishments, Dr. Lasseigne is particularly proud of her most recent initiatives in providing a wide range of much needed early childhood resources to the local community from assisting families in qualifying for state allocated childcare subsidy programs to establishing effective partnerships with local parishes to address the significant lack of access to high-quality childcare within at-risk communities. Through these partnerships, she has collaborated in the development and operational management of high-quality early learning centers within each partnering parish's most at-risk communities - a complex undertaking that involves collaborating with partnering parishes in identifying financial assistance to offer parish-based tuition subsidies to families for their young children to attend a high-quality early learning center.
In the coming years, Dr. Lasseigne strives to develop additional external partnerships, enhance existing partnerships, and increase her institution's offerings of early childhood resources to support student parents on campus including the establishment of a student-parent support program in partnership with the university's Office of Student Affairs. "The greatest gift we can give any child is unequivocal love and limitless support within an environment that enhances their full potential." says Dr. Lasseigne. "Only then can we truly impact the trajectory of their future."
