ALBUQUERQUE, NM, October 23, 2023 - Leo Gabaldon has been included in the Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Although retired from his work as a cartographer, Mr. Gabaldon still assists some of the geologists/scientists at the Bureau of Geology with illustration and geological mapping. Previously, he worked for more than 20 years as a senior cartographer, graphic specialist and illustrator. Utilizing Geographic Information systems technology in developing maps for the NMBG at NM Tech. Over the year, he has also worked as a design draftsman in civil, mechanical, electromechanical, and in the fabrication industry. As an illustrator he has gained valuable expertise in developing artwork for scientist with in the NM Tech's research community. Over the years, he has worked as a concept artist, to create and develop art for fossils and geology that existed hundreds to millions of year in the past.
His career has also lead him to do work for the gaming and movie industry. During the early stages of his career, Mr. Gabaldon gained valuable expertise working for the government through a third party company as a graphic designer. Similarly, he dedicated himself to the military as a design draftsman and weapon designer.
Outside of work, Mr. Gabaldon contributes to his community by assisting at a senior center and co-teaching a drawing and painting class. Before embarking on his professional journey, he studied material engineering at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr Gabaldon takes the most pride in his Award of Excellence from Sandia National Laboratories for playing a key role in completing a timely study of Potential Impacts of Iraqi Use of Oil as a Defensive Weapon which influenced Desert Storm Operations.
Due to his considerable breath of knowledge, Mr. Gabaldon making, illustrations and photoshop work has been published in a number articles, books, and quarterly for the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources. With in the next five to ten years, he aims to continue working as a artist, designer and draftsman in some capacity. Ultimately, Mr. Gabaldon also intends to become known as an artist or concept artist.
