BRONX, NY, October 23, 2023 - Timur Alasania has been included in Marquis Who's Who. After more than three and a half decades of service with the USSR/Russia/Georgia Ministries for Foreign Affairs and United Nations, Dr. Alasania retired from his role as chief of the Disarmament, Decolonization and Peace Affairs Branch in 2011. In this capacity, he oversaw 24 diverse portfolios, as well as review conferences on weapons of mass destruction, especially Chemical and Biological weapons. Over the years, he honed his expertise on an international scale in the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Senegal, and many others. Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, Dr. Alasania has also served as a national and international lecturer at various colleges and universities.
During the early stages of his career, Dr. Alasania served as secretary of the United Nations Disarmament Commission (UNDC); the First (Special) Committee on Disarmament and International Security; the Peacebuilding Commission; Committee on Geographical Names; Special Conferences of the Least Developed Countries (LDC); Ad Hoc Committees on Sustainable Development and Prevention of Conflicts in Africa; the first, second, third, and fourth groups of International Experts of the International Arms Transfer Register; etc.
Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, he has authored more than 50 articles in the field of disarmament, international security and peacebuilding, as well as several books on general political philosophy, among them "Comprehensive Security: In Search of New Avenues", "At the Crossroads", "Unfinished Considerations", and others. An expert in his field, Dr. Alasania holds a bachelor's degree from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, a master's degree from the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR, and a PhD from the Academy of Sciences.
Though his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Alasania takes the most pride in his active participation of creating new standards of safe environment for children, their wellbeing, care and education at the Third Special Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations; Universally recognized regimes of Promotion of the Rights and Dignity of people with Disabilities; and security regime for Small Arms and Conventional Weapons within the United Nations that has endured since his retirement. The cornerstone of his success lies in his unwavering dedication, tireless efforts, and belief in what he does.
Lately Dr. Alasania has been working with the governments of different countries to promote democratic values and corruption-free societies, as a pre-requisite to successful nation-building. He has been advising a number of international organizations and sits on their Boards.
In the coming years, Dr. Alasania also intends to continue to impart his knowledge to upcoming professionals and serve as a mentor and speaker.
