SHREWSBURY, MA, October 19, 2023 - Mary Gene Ryan, EdD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Leveraging four decades of excellence in education, Dr. Ryan has earned distinction as the managing editor for the Health Physics Journal, a refereed journal published monthly for specialists in radiation protection, which she joined in 2011. Additionally, she has served as an adjunct professor for the CAPS program at Charleston Southern University since 2006 and is a director-at-large for the Emmanuel College Alumni Board.
Before her present role, Dr. Ryan served as the dean of arts and sciences for Aiken Technical College in 1983 and became the dean of student success for Charleston Southern University in 1996. She also was a Title III grant coordinator for Midlands Technical College from 2007 until 2012. Among her professional accomplishments, she was honored with a NIOSH Excellence in Teaching Award, an Administrator of the Year Award and various other staff member of the year awards. She also received the Faculty Member of the Year Award in 1987 from Aiken Technical College.
To prepare for her career in education, Dr. Ryan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish language teacher education from Emmanuel College, Boston, in 1975. Following this achievement, she attained a Master of Education in higher education in 1989 and a Doctor of Education in curriculum and instruction in 1994, both from the University of South Carolina. Well-qualified in her field, she is a certified professional secretary with the International Association of Administrative Professionals.
Within the coming years, Dr. Ryan intends to spend more time traveling to see more of the world. She is most proud to have helped Charleston Southern University become an electronic campus at the forefront of distance education. She also was key in revising the developmental reading program at Midlands Technical College.
