Drawing on years of professional expertise in education, Dr. Scholl served as a family and consumer sciences administrator and teacher for Arlington Public Schools between 1987 and 2022. In this capacity, she was the Supervisor for Family and Consumer Sciences and Supervisor for the Teenage Parenting Programs. She wrote proposals for grants, which brought in millions of dollars to Arlington Public Schools, and created the Even Start Family Literacy Program in Arlington, the Outreach to Parenting Teens Program that located out-of-school pregnant and parenting teens and helped them to graduate, Alternatives for Parenting Teens that included a licensed infant care center, the Young Father Program to connect fathers with their babies, and established a course at the middle schools to address adolescent pregnancy prevention.
During the early stages of her career, Dr. Scholl gained valuable expertise in home economics education as a teacher at Winslow High School, the Arizona Department of Education's Arizona Center for Vocational Education, traveling to 77 schools and assisting 102 home economics teachers, and the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service of Fairfax County. Outside her work, she contributes to her community through Virginia Family and Consumer Sciences Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and Trinity Presbyterian Church. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Scholl aligns herself with the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences, the Association of Career and Technical Education, and the National Council on Family Relations.
An expert in her field, Dr. Scholl holds a bachelor's degree and a Master of Arts in Home Economics Education from Northern Arizona University and a PhD in Educational Leadership and Administration from George Mason University. Subsequently, she became a certified family life educator through the National Council on Family Relations. She also is licensed in seven areas through the Virginia Department of Education. In recognition of her professional accomplishments, Dr. Scholl has received several awards and scholarships throughout her career and won the prestigious Person of Vision Award from Arlington County.
While her career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Scholl takes the most pride in creating comprehensive programs to address adolescent pregnancy in Arlington County, reducing the incidence from 365 per year to less than 30 per year. The cornerstone of her success lay in her intelligence, healthy life practices, wonderful mentors/colleagues, community support, and the drive to help others. Looking forward, she intends to create cooking videos on how to make simple and nutritious foods for the special needs population. Ultimately, Dr. Scholl also wants to streamline management of her rental real estate portfolio, continue to be physically active, learn new things, and travel more.
