Dr. Malik teaches at the rank of associate professor at Sacred Heart University, providing undergraduate and graduate-level instruction in financial accounting, governmental and nonprofit accounting, and managerial accounting. After joining the faculty in 2014 as an assistant professor, she has also been committed to the service platform by fulfilling duties related to committee membership; notably, from 2019 through 2022, Dr. Malik also expertly managed the responsibilities associated with her role as the director of the master's program in accounting.
A passion for research drives Dr. Malik to regularly submit her writings to peer-reviewed academic journals, through which she has significantly impacted scholarly discourse in the field. Her expansive output focuses on platforms such as business ethics, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability, and selected publications include "Empirical Examination of the Direct and Moderating Role of Corporate Social Responsibility in Top Executive Compensation" for Pacific Accounting Review in 2022 and "Product Recall and CEO Compensation: Evidence from the Automobile Industry," which was accepted for publication in Finance Research Letters in 2023. Additionally, Dr. Malik authored "Peer Pressure, Information Technology Adoption and Long-Term Performance" for the Asian Journal of Business and Accounting in 2023.
In her research pursuits and faculty responsibilities, Dr. Malik relies on exceptional academic training. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance and banking from the University of Dhaka, which she earned in her home country of Bangladesh in 2002.
Subsequently, she pursued graduate studies and completed a Master of Business Administration in finance, also from the University of Dhaka, in 2004. Upon accepting a Fulbright scholarship in 2007, she immigrated to the United States to attend Brandeis University, where she completed a Master of Business Administration in international finance and won the Outstanding Graduate Student award in 2009. Dr. Malik proudly finished a terminal degree in her field by enrolling at Boston University and completing a PhD in accounting in 2014.
Dr. Malik is an award-winning educator and scholar. In 2022, Poets & Quants, a distinguished institution for business school rankings, included her in the Top 50 Undergraduate Business School Professors compilation; she counts this as her most notable career accomplishment thus far. In 2023, Sacred Heart University honored Dr. Malik with a Teaching Excellence Award, and her home institution has also repeatedly recognized her with the Outstanding Research Award and University Research/Creativity Grants as well as the Inclusive Teaching Fellow Grant, which she earned in 2021. Additionally, while prospering as a graduate student at Boston University in 2014, Dr. Malik humbly accepted an award for outstanding research by a doctoral student.
Dr. Malik attributes her success to positivity and optimism, noting that both traits were modeled by her parents who have inspired and shaped her approach to academic and professional pursuits. She is also dedicated to both short and long-term goal setting, and Dr. Malik remains steadfast in meticulous planning toward achieving her objectives.
Dr. Malik remains dedicated to her students' success and to the further pursuit of research areas that include business ethics, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability. Looking toward the future, she aims to seek a promotion to full professor and to further develop and refine the academic programs and dynamic curricula offered at Sacred Heart University. Additionally, Dr. Malik plans to engage with for-profit and nonprofit U.S. corporations via a consultancy role or similar capacity to promote sustainability and address climate change concerns.
