CENTREVILLE, VA, October 06, 2023 - Christiana Briganti-Dunn, P.E., CCM, DBIA, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individual profiles are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in the field are all taken into account during the selection process.
From an early age, Ms. Briganti-Dunn held aspirations of becoming an architect. With her father's guidance, her dream evolved into a desire to serve as a structural engineer. In pursuit of her career goals, she first received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Virginia (UVa) in 1991, graduating in UVa's first civil engineering class comprised of 50% women. Despite one professor who dissuaded women from becoming engineers, when that same professor was replaced by the textbook author and one of UVa's popular civil engineering professors, Christiana uncovered her true passion in the field: highway design.
After earning a Master of Science in civil engineering in 1993, Ms. Briganti-Dunn began her career at Parsons Transportation Group, serving as a traffic engineer, a transportation planner, and a highway designer, until 2001. She went on to fulfill the role of senior project engineer at Consoer Townsend Envirodyne Engineers, Inc. from 2001 to 2003, before transitioning to DMJM Harris, another subsidiary of AECOM Corporation, where she served as project manager II from 2003 to 2004. Her experience as a consultant project manager positioned her as an ideal candidate to function as a Location & Design Project Manager for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), beginning in 2004. In her nearly 20 year tenure at VDOT, she served as Transportation Engineer Senior, Design-Build Project Manager, and ultimately the Design-Build Program Manager. In her last six years with the department, she led a very successful, award winning, program of Design-Build infrastructure improvements in VDOT's Northern Virginia District worth $1 Billion.
Presently, with 30 years of experience, Christiana has returned to where she started her career, Parsons Transportation Group, to take on the role of senior project manager. On the road to her current position, she has earned a Professional Engineer license from the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, and two certifications: Certified Construction Manager (CCM) from the Construction Management Association of America, and Designated Design-Build Professional Certification from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). Along with her expertise and wealth of experience, Ms. Briganti-Dunn has been recognized for her contributions to the industry she serves. In 2018, the project she administered on behalf of VDOT, the I-66/Route 15 Interchange Reconstruction, received the National Project of the Year award from DBIA. In 2019, she received the DBIA Design-Build for Transportation and Aviation Leadership Award, and in 2020, she was honored to receive the VDOT Commissioner's Award for Outstanding VDOT Leader and Project Manager.
For all the accolades and acknowledgements Ms. Briganti-Dunn has received, she attributes her success to her openness to face challenges and ability to tackle them head on. She loves finding better ways to solve problems while appealing to the public's preference, creating a collaborative and inclusive work environment in the projects she leads. In the next five years, Ms. Briganti-Dunn will continue to apply her skills in civil engineering, continue learning to expand her knowledge in technology and advancements in traffic operations, while considering how she can further contribute to her field, such as acting as a career coach to help the new generation navigate the industry she loves.
