NEW YORK, NY, August 25, 2023 - Renée Sue Edelman has participated in The Star Treatment, a prestigious video series hosted by renowned lawyer and television personality, Star Jones. This premier video series is extremely limited — Marquis Who's Who qualifies 500 listees on an annual basis for this elite service. Backed by a storied career in media that spans more than two decades, Star works closely with Marquis listees to assist with networking goals and commemorative efforts that can be shared with a worldwide audience.
A communications and media relations expert, Ms. Edelman grew up in a family whose eponymous firm, Edelman, is known for its leadership in modern public relations. In fact, the firm's work was known to Ms. Jones even prior to the interview, as she had worked with Edelman in association with the American Heart Association for many years. Growing up in the family business with her father, Dan Edelman, founder and chairman of Edelman, Ms. Edelman learned from her father, who created the media tour, and was known as the "father of marketing public relations." Her mother was the "secret weapon" and helped bring in clients. Today, Ms. Edelman works with her older brother, Richard W. Edelman, CEO, Edelman, and her younger brother, John D. Edelman, managing director, global engagement and corporate responsibility, Edelman, and Richard's three daughters, Margot, Tory, and Amanda, who each hold leadership roles at Edelman or its sister company, Zeno Group.
Ms. Edelman reflects that in the past, public relations professionals came from journalism backgrounds, because to be effective, it was important to be able to effectively tell a story, much the same way one would write a news article. Today, however, public relations experts need to be prepared to counsel their clients to take actions that improve society in addition to telling stories. A key example she cited was the Dove brand of beauty products, which initiated a very successful campaign to reinforce positive self-esteem among women of all ages.
Among the many projects that Ms. Edelman's firm has been part of include working with CVS to take tobacco out of stores, encouraging U.S. outdoor recreation retailer REI to close its stores the day after Thanksgiving to allow the employees to spend time outside; and working with Adobe to launch the PDF. These days, one of the top issues that she and the firm's clients are facing is the dawn of Al, which has consumers concerned that this new technology could eventually replace them. Ms. Edelman is confident that there will always be a need for humans in her role.
Looking ahead, Ms. Edelman will continue to help recruit young people with diverse backgrounds to Edelman. She dreams of establishing the Daniel J. Edelman Institute, which will train students over the summer. Additionally, she is passionate about mental health awareness as a tribute to her mother, who was diagnosed in the early 1980s with bipolar disorder. She hopes to write a book about her mother's struggle and her work as an advocate.
As a closing note, Ms. Edelman wants the viewers of her interview with Ms. Jones to be aware of the importance of women working in business, and the proud histories of family businesses. She encourages everyone to be advocates for themselves and find trusted mentors to guide them through their careers. With an accomplished skill set and industry knowledge gained over a long and fruitful career, there is no doubt that Ms. Edelman is a worthy recipient of the Star Treatment.
