Mr. Babits is an associate U.S. Securities counsel for Royal Dutch Shell, a global energy company based in London. Having worked with both U.K. and Netherlands councils, his responsibilities are widespread. Among his daily activities, Mr. Babits is involved in aspects related to U.S. securities law, investigations, and advising. Additionally, he ensures compliance with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rules and regulations and all U.K. and Netherlands rules and regulations. Moreover, he serves as an advisor to the Shell disclosure committee and as a member of its reserve committee and financial controls and reporting committee.
Leveraging more than 30 years of expertise, Mr. Babits spent many years with the SEC in Washington, D.C., as a special counsel in the corporate finance division from 1998 to 2005. He also worked with the Commission after graduating from college between 1991 and 1997. During his distinguished tenure, Mr. Babits served as Commissioner Isaac Hunt's counsel and special counsel in the Office of Chief Counsel, corporate finance division. Additionally, he concentrated on rulemaking and was heavily involved in interpretive releases and legal SEC accounting issues. Moreover, Mr. Babits garnered recognition at Morgan Loop for just over a year, involved in reviewing company filings, interpretive work, and rulemaking. Looking toward future opportunities, he plans to run for Congress in Florida as a Republican in 2024.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Babits received a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1985 and a Master of Business Administration in finance and investments in 1988 from The George Washington University, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University in 1991. Mr. Babits is a professional member of the Practising Law Institute.
Mr. Babits was recognized by the SEC with a Capital Market Award.
