Gerald A. Brown Recognized for Excellence in Public Administration

ST. LOUIS, MO, July 06, 2023 - Gerald A. Brown has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Mr. Brown is a municipal administrator, leader, and parks and recreation professional celebrating more than 25 years of distinction in his industry. Naturally athletic and drawn to the outdoors, he studied at Missouri State University, graduating in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in parks and recreation. Throughout his career, he has remained dedicated to growing as a professional and a member of the communities he serves through continuing education. He holds numerous specialist credentials and is a certified playground safety inspector, a certified aquatic facility operator, and a certified parks and recreation professional.

He began his career in 1996 working for the City of Olivette, where he served for seven years as director of parks and recreation. In 2003, Mr. Brown departed from the City of Olivette to accept his current position as director of parks and recreation for the City of Sunset Hills, where he oversees maintenance, development, and access for more than 400 acres of parkland and recreational facilities. His administrative responsibilities include budgeting, staff leadership and development, and working with community members and stakeholders to shape a sustainable and responsive future for the department.

Among Mr. Brown's greatest accomplishments on behalf of the City of Sunset Hills was securing more than $12 million in grant funding for various municipal projects. He credits his success to his grounded and people-focused personality, the values instilled in him by his parents and early mentors, and to the support of his wife and family. Mr. Brown is a member of the National Recreation and Park Association, the Missouri Parks & Recreation Association, and the Open Space Council. He is active in the Crestwood Sunset Hills Rotary Club, which honored him as Rotarian of the Year and Chamber of Commerce, which honored him as member of the year for his dedication to service, and enjoys giving back as a volunteer coach for youth sports teams and the Special Olympics. In the coming years, Mr. Brown hopes to expand the City of Sunset Hills parks and recreation district to include several new facilities and to explore his career potential.
