Timothy Castner Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Education

LANCASTER, MA, June 16, 2023 - Timothy Castner has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A seasoned educator with years of expertise in his field, Mr. Castner presently excels as a history teacher with the Nashoba Regional School District, where he teaches five classes. His teaching has focused primarily on AP US History, as well as other US History classes. While working at Nashoba, Mr. Castner helped write and implement a grant program that pairs high school students with a local farm that in turn mentors and trains immigrant and refugee farmers. He has also consulted with other school districts and non-profits to help them improve their curriculum and practice. Alongside his job with the district, Mr. Castner is vice president of Shirley Forests Inc., through which he oversees hunting leases, small gravel and sand operations, maple syrup production, and assists with boundary maintenance and inventory.

In conjunction with his work, Mr. Castner has contributed to his community as a curriculum developer and adult discipleship teacher for Grace Chapel, a board member of Freedom's Way National Heritage Area, as a Keystone cooperator for the Massachusetts Keystone Project, and as member and chair of the Lancaster Town Forest Committee. Before embarking on his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Russian Language and Literature from Middlebury College. Subsequently, Mr. Castner expanded upon his professional knowledge, receiving his Master of Arts in Teaching History from Boston University (now Wheelock College of Education & Human Development at Boston University) and teaching certificates through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Mr. Castner aligns himself with the National Council for the Social Studies and the Organization of American Historians. He has authored several works, including "The Glory of the Nations and the Challenge of Church Unity," "The Power of Symbols" and two chapters of "Conflicts in American History: A Documentary Encyclopedia." In recognition of his professional achievements, he has been honored several times, earning the Mildred Virginia Osher History Prize, the Berthe O. Romano Prize from Middlebury College, the Mary Ann Sessions Excellence in Education Award from Nashoba Regional Endowment Committee, the Kidger Award for excellence in pre-collegiate teaching from the New England History Teachers Association, and the Farmer Friend of the Year Award from World Farmers. Looking ahead, Mr. Castner intends to retire from teaching high school and explore options for teaching at community colleges or universities. In addition, he anticipates expanding his work with Shirley Forests and spending more time writing and with family.
