BRONX, NY, June 15, 2023 - Jack D. Simons, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Leveraging several years of excellence as an educator and school counselor, Dr. Simons has earned distinction as an associate professor with Mercy College. Having joined the college in 2016 as an assistant professor, since 2022 he has focused his efforts on conducting research and teaching courses on school counseling, with a specialty in LGBT+ students and educators.
Outside of his primary career efforts, Dr. Simons serves as the treasurer for the Westchester Putnam Rockland Counseling Association. He is also a valued member of the American School Counselor Association, the New York State School Counselor Association and the European Association of Social Psychology. He previously functioned as the president of the Czech Slovak American Club of Tucson.
Among his professional accomplishments, Dr. Simons is proud to have received a research award from the Western Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. He also developed a theory called "Identity Behavior Theory," which was published in an international journal. Additionally, he lends his expertise as the director of the Transgender Resilience Project and supports PFLAG and the Human Rights Campaign.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Simons began his career as a postdoctoral researcher with the University of Arizona in 2014 and with The University of Texas at Austin in 2015. Prior to embarking on his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from St. Louis University in 2000. Following this achievement, he attained a Doctor of Philosophy in counseling from the University of Missouri in 2015.
Within the coming years, Dr. Simons intends to continue his work with the Transgender Resilience Project, taking the endeavor internationally. His goal is to continue discussing and raising awareness about issues in education, particularly as they relate to LGBT+ concerns. He also plans to become a leader at Mercy College.
