IRVINE, CA, June 14, 2023 - Rohit Pal, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Pal has earned distinction as a semiconductor technologist with over two decades of professional experience, 45 patents, 27 publications, and over 2200 citations. Currently, as a director of research and development for Foundry Engineering at Broadcom Inc., his team is enabling the next generation of telecommunications chips including those for Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Pal has worked in the US, Europe, and Asia, beginning his career as a management trainee with Engineers India Limited in 1998. He came on a Fellowship to the University of Michigan in 1999 where his research focused on Lab-on-a-chip devices funded by NIH's Human Genome Project. As an AMD assignee in the IBM alliance and at GlobalFoundries, he helped develop and productize the leading Moore law nodes (65nm, 45nm, 32nm, 28nm, and 14nm). He was promoted in 2011 to a manager and technology owner and then to a deputy director in 2015. After leaving this role in 2017, he briefly served as the director of fab technology for MACOM.
Among his professional accomplishments, Dr. Pal has been honored with numerous Spotlight awards and inventor recognitions. His PhD work was featured on the cover page of Lab-on-a-chip Journal and at AMD he won the best paper award at SPIE. He has delivered invited talks at IEDM and at NASA-JPL. Added to these, he received an Outstanding Achievement Award in 2013 and a Nomination for Extra-ordinary leadership training from GlobalFoundries. He is also proud to have been instrumental in the Greenfield startup of a state-of-the-art semiconductor fab in Malta, New York.
To prepare for his career, Dr. Pal earned a Bachelor of Technology in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi which had an acceptance rate of less than 0.5%, and was awarded best Freshman by the department. He attained two Masters of Science in chemical engineering and electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. He subsequently gained a Doctor of Philosophy in chemical engineering from the same institution. Well-qualified in his field, he is a Lean Six Sigma black belt with GlobalFoundries. He is a senior member of the IEEE and a nominated member of Sigma Xi.
Within the coming years, Dr. Pal is looking forward to helping the diversify semiconductor supply chain in the spirit of the Chips Act. He also intends to focus more of his efforts on mentoring and coaching the next generation of semiconductor experts. His interests include writing and he was nominated for 2022 Kirkwood Prize from UCLA. He hopes to publish his novel one day. In his free time, he volunteers for local community events and is involved with Orange County's Habitat for Humanity chapter. He coaches his children and family on giving back by helping underprivileged children get a better education.
