SAN DIEGO, CA, May 17, 2023 - Kelley K. Gusich has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. Ms. Gusich is an award-winning professional writer who has written several mysteries, young adult, and non-fiction books with the pen names Kelley Kaye and Kelley Kay Bowles. Her first book, "Death by Diploma" was released via Red Adept Publishing in 2016. It is the first of the Chalkboard Outlines ® series. "Poison by Punctuation" followed in 2018, with "Strangled by Simile" in 2021. Ms. Gusich subsequently released her first young adult novel "Down in the Belly of the Whale" through Aionios Books in 2018, "The Meld: Magic, Please" in 2022, and "I Know It's Daytime: Prequel to The Meld YA Series" via All Things That Matter Press just two months later. Aside from writing books and posting blogs via her website, Ms. Gusich has freelanced as a ZCode Media writer since 2012. In addition to contributing articles for 11 of its community magazines, she writes Student Star Articles and participates in other writing projects.
Inspired by her father, who opened the first U.S. based used trade paperback bookstore in Salt Lake City in 1966, Ms. Gusich became a voracious reader and fan of books when she was a toddler. After college, she taught high school English and drama in Colorado and California for more than two decades before retiring from the classroom due to her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. Ms. Gusich retired from Fruita Monument High School in Fruita, Colorado, in 2011.
Proud to be actively involved in her community, Ms. Gusich served as the secretary for Friends of the Library at the 4S Ranch Library for many years. She was also actively engaged as an MSFriends hotline volunteer for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society from 2013 to 2022.
Ms. Gusich graduated from the University of the Pacific with a Bachelor of Arts in English, language arts, and teacher education in 1992. She subsequently attended Lacrosse University, earning a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing in 2003. Ms. Gusich also received secondary English teacher certification through the California Department of Education. To remain abreast in her industry, she has been a member of International Thriller Writers and instructs at the Southern California Writer Conference.
Ms. Gusich is a three-time Reader's Choice Award winner and a 2017 Indie Writer of the Year. She was also recognized for her success in several local newspapers about how writing has helped her cope with her multiple sclerosis diagnosis.
