Mr. Goossens has established himself as a leader in the flavor industry, having garnered more than 50 years with several organizations as a flavor chemist. Since 2001, he has served as the president at Flavorful Solutions LLC, a consulting company that serves the technical and commercial needs of multinational flavor and fragrances companies and their customers.
Having garnered extensive expertise at International Flavors and Fragrances, Mr. Goossens was employed by the international organization between 1976 and 2001. During his distinguished tenure, he served as the vice president of global commercial product development, regional manager and vice president of the Asia Pacific, vice president of business development in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, managing director of Indonesia, vice president of U.S. business development, and as the director of flavor creation. Additionally, Mr. Goossens was affiliated with Miles Laboratories Inc. as the director of flavor research from 1972 to 1976 and Naarden International in The Netherlands and South Africa as a flavor chemist between 1962 and 1971. Mr. Goossens was notably transferred to the U.S. after Naarden purchased a flavor company called Flavorex in Baltimore.
As an expert in the flavor industry, Mr. Goossens' progressive levels of responsibility have included all aspects of technical, commercial, and senior management in the U.S., Europe, Asia Pacific, and Latin America. In addition to these notable roles, he has lectured on various related topics at several universities, including the University of Virginia (UVA), and professional organizations abroad in the U.K., Hong Kong, and Bangkok. As a seasoned researcher, Mr. Goossens has authored more than 60 professional journal articles in his area of expertise and has secured several flavor-related patents. Among other accomplishments, he served as the project director of the 'Socrates Project: Poisonous Plants in Virginia' published by UVA in 2020 and the 'Cleopatra Project: Poisonous and Venomous Animals in Virginia' to published by UVA in 2022.
To give back, Mr. Goossens has lent his time and expertise to the community as a volunteer master naturalist in Virginia. He has also been affiliated with a local juvenile detention center.
Mr. Goossens earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and botany at the State College of Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture in The Netherlands in 1962. He also received certification as a master naturalist in the state of Virginia. To remain aware of developments in his field, Mr. Goossens is a certified member, former board member, past president, and former library committee chairperson of the Society of Flavor Chemists and a member of the Institute of Food Technology.
In light of his accomplishments, Mr. Goossens has been awarded the Golden Blotter Award from the Society of Flavor Chemists.
