Virtual Art Exhibition BALLAST aims to help us navigate the present and prepare for the future

May 03, 2023 - Artist Jeremiah Krage announces his latest art exhibition, BALLAST, which will take place in a virtual gallery accessible through the link https://artspaces.kunstmatrix.com/en/exhibition/11628543/ballast. BALLAST boldly combines ceramic sculpture, abstract painting, and a virtual gallery to bring traditional art media into the metaverse.

In BALLAST, Krage reflects on the questions and challenges we are facing as technology continues to develop at an exponential rate. The artist was inspired by the challenges this rapid development poses for our sense of identity, control, and balance.

According to Krage, "Life is happening fast, and it feels faster every day. We are surrounded by amazing new technologies, new opportunities, new virtual worlds. But it can feel complicated. Overwhelming. Relentless. For BALLAST, I’ve created pieces that reflect different aspects of this experience in order to help reclaim some balance."

The exhibition features a tightly curated selection of new work, including craggy ceramic sculptures and abstract paintings. All pieces are for sale, and being in a virtual gallery allows anyone to access the exhibition remotely via a phone or laptop. The artist used Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) to scan and generate 3D models of the sculptures so that they can be viewed from 360 degrees.
