In this capacity, she meets with project design teams from the education, healthcare, civic and commercial sectors, oversees best strategies from a sustainability perspective, and analyzes energy and water use reduction, indoor and outdoor building materials, and their impact on the health and well-being of occupants. Previously, Ms. Monasterio Vargas worked as a project leader and architectural designer for SDH Studio Architecture and Interior Design.
During the early stages of her career, Ms. Monasterio Vargas gained valuable expertise through such companies as Miacucina, and Capital Companies in Miami, ODL Arquitectura, Micra Urbana, in Caracas, Venezuela. In conjunction with her work, she has contributed to her community through Latinos in Architecture (LiA), Debris Free Oceans, Trazando Espacios Publicos, Guardabosques Universidad Simon Bolivar, Voto Joven, Federación de Centros de Estudiantes of Universidad Simón Bolívar, and San Ignacio Model of United Nations. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Ms. Monasterio Vargas aligns herself with the American Institute of Architects.
An expert in her field, Ms. Monasterio Vargas holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Simón Bolívar University in Venezuela. Similarly, she has studied at Universidad de Los Andes in Bogota, Colombia, become a Fitwel Ambassador, and received a leadership in energy and environmental design green associate certificate through the Green Business Certification Inc. Currently, she is pursuing a master's degree in sustainable design at Boston Architectural College. In light of her outstanding body of work, she received the Innovation incubator grant from Perkins&Will to research her proposal Managed Retreat: An opportunity or defeat for climate refugees?, the CINDA scholarship to the Universidad de Los Andes and earned first place in Ccs City 450 context 2017 with a group proposal named: "Playing with Jackies: Under Re-construction"
While her career has been filled with highlights, Ms. Monasterio Vargas takes the most pride in building sustainable projects for her clients and participating in award-winning projects. The cornerstone of her success lay in her perseverance, discipline, and her mentors, especially the ones that helped her career in the United States. Looking toward the future, Ms. Monasterio Vargas will complete her master's degree thesis and positively impact her community.
