Chris Conde - Engulfed In The Marvelous Decay (Album)

SAN ANTONIO - May 13, 2021 - Fake Four, Inc. artist Chris Conde is a self-described "thicc, queer Mexican" who just happens to have a flair for rapping circles around the competition. From the moment Conde was introduced to the slam poetry of Saul Williams, they knew they wanted to weave words together into their own colorful tapestry, something that finally afforded them the ability to express the often uncomfortable feelings they experienced growing up.

Now, Conde is pleased to release their next studio album, Engulfed In The Marvelous Decay, another chapter in their journey to self-discovery. With song titles such as "American Faggot" and "Cancel Culture Blues," Conde grabs the bull by the proverbial horn and doesn't let go for the entirety of the 14-track effort.

Raw, brutally honest and unafraid, Conde throws lyrical daggers with lines such as "I've been called a faggot, I've been called a spic / I've been called the names, to reinforce me as your It / As not a person, or as least not one that is complete / Cuz being queer and brown, to you don't make me a human being."

Coupled with production from Lazerbeak of Doomtree, Nick Sandy, Mid Air, Whatever Cecil, Demitri Crisp and Conde, the effortlessly cohesive project swells with jagged guitar riffs, hard-hitting drums, pristine scratches and an urgency in his often distorted yet powerful vocals.

But Engulfed In A Marvelous Day also comes with more subdued, reflective moments. On "Everyday," Chris dives into full self-examination mode, learning how to question their own ideologies, belief systems and patterns without falling down a spiral of shame. "Everyday the world is different, everyday I must adjust, everyday is a day when I must relearn just how to love" the queer-identifying Texan exhales over a boom-bap inspired beat. The complimenting visual directed by both Wayne Fau and Conde is essentially a day in the life of the San Antonio-based artist; from waking up in their bedroom to skateboarding through the neighborhood, eating chicken and greeting a friend. "Everyday" is an invitation to celebrate the journey of self-reflection.
