OAKLAND, Calif. - May 4, 2021 - During the first quarter of 2021 first time, Author L.L. Leatutufu released her first Multicultural book of her children's travel series: Ehsan Goes To Paris. Leatutufu found her inspiration for the book in 2018 after she and her family traveled to Paris to celebrate her son Ehsan's 1st birthday. After having Ehsan, she recognized there was a need for a multicultural perspective in traveling and Black, Indigenous children of color to be represented in books as the main protagonist; especially African American males.
"I want to normalize Black children exploring and traveling abroad. There are not enough fun children's books with Black males as the main protagonist. I am raising a Black and Sāmoan son; It was imperative that I be the person to write the book I wanted to see on the bookshelves." Said Leatutufu.
Working as a Juvenile Probation Officer, she noticed it wasn't just Black and Indigenous children who needed a perspective on traveling but those children who never received an opportunity to leave the city or town they reside in, causing them to be a part of dismantled broken systems.
Leatutufu didn't just want to be the change on the clock, but be the change off the clock by exposing children to a world outside of the radius they are familiar with; even if it's only through her books. She believes her stories celebrate and represent Black children as well as foster their imagination. Through her book series, she wants to normalize stories and imagery of Black children/families traveling and exploring the world. Ehsan Goes To Paris can be purchased on Amazon and through Amazon Prime.
