If you've ever heard the term 'impact wrench' and don't know what it means, don't worry. At Automexico.com we explain what it is and what it is for.
I.How much cordless impact wrench goodyear?
Impact wrenches are heavy-duty power tools designed for the tightening or loosening of even the toughest fastenings, such as sockets, nuts and bolts. They allow for a high level of torque for socket wrenching with minimal user effort output. Traditionally pneumatic-powered tools, impact wrenches have increasingly become corded, mains-powered tools or cordless, battery-powered tools, making them more accessible and easier to use for a wider range of users.
Impact wrenches are easy to use and offer a level of socket drive difficult to achieve with a manual tool. Sometimes referred to as impact guns or air wrenches, these tools are often used in automotive repair shops, product assembly and in construction. They are also used by pit crews in auto racing for quick tyre changes, easily identified by their iconic whirring noise.
We have brushed and brushless varieties, drive sizes of 1/4inch, 3/8inch and 1/2inch, and a choice of corded or cordless impact wrenches in various lightweight and ergonomic designs.

What is an impact wrench
Impact wrenches are found in the tool chests of mechanics everywhere. They're commonly used for loosening lug nuts from cars and trucks, but they can also be used in any high-torque situation.
Not to be confused with an impact driver, which has a 1/4-inch hex opening, a standard automotive impact wrench can accommodate 1/2-inch sockets of various sizes, including those that can fit a wheel lug.
Impact wrenches have traditionally been as pneumatic-powered tools, similar to the types used on pit road during auto races. The loud whirring sound is their signature and still the most commonly used tool in professional garages. But cordless 18V impact wrenches are now readily available and have the type of power to loosen lug nuts that are roughly tightened at 100 feet of torque. They are also still extremely loud so hearing protection should be worn when using them.

What is the difference between Impact Wrenches and Impact Drivers?
Impact wrenches and impact drivers are different tools, but can often be confused due to their similar names. It's important to know the difference, as they definitely can't replace each other! Whereas impact wrenches are used to remove or loosen sockets, nuts or bolts, impact drivers are used to drill long screws into wood or metal. An easy way to tell these tools apart is to look at their drives - impact drivers typically have a 1/4inch hex collet, but impact wrenches have a 1/2inch square drive.
III. How to use impact wrench
Step 1 - Assemble
An air impact wrench looks a lot like an old fashioned drill. It has a silver metal body and a trigger release switch which allows the user to exert the right amount and level of air and torque pressure. The air impact wrench is attached to a long rubber hose, which in turn is attached to the air pressure unit that supplies the air pressure to the air impact gun. The pressure is only released when the user applies hand pressure to the trigger. Assemble the air impact gun by following any directions that come with it. The hose should be attached to the pressure unit first and then to the wrench. This leaves you free to remove the wrench from the hose at any time, using the quick release clip.
Step 2 - Testing 1, 2, 3…..
Once you have attached the hose and wrench to the pressure unit make sure the unit is exerting the right level of pressure for your wrench. PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) should ideally be set to between 90 and 100 PSI. Run a quick visual check of the hose line and make certain it is straightened out and free of any twists or kinks. Like a water hose, if there is a kink in it the water will get stuck and bulge out under the pressure. Air will do the same, so check for that before you use the wrench.

Test the direction to which the air impact wrench is set by lightly touching the trigger and seeing which way it turns
Test the direction to which the air impact wrench is set by lightly touching the trigger and seeing which way it turns. You will note a latch or knob somewhere on the side of the wrench which allows you to reverse the socket direction. If you want to loosen, make sure it faces counter-clockwise and for tightening, clockwise.
Step 3 - Speed
Assign the correct speed using the dial or switch on the wrench and set it to the correct speed for the project you are undertaking. Once you are happy that it will have the correct level of speed and torque you can attach the correct size socket to the bit on the front of the wrench. Slip the socket bit onto the wheel nut and press the trigger on the air impact wrench. The nuts of the wheel should loosen nicely and then you can take them off.
IV . How much cordless impact wrench?
Impact wrenches get their immense torque from a hammering mechanism in the tool that delivers strong concussive blows extremely quickly. When loosening a lug nut you'll notice the socket attached to the impact wrench moving slowly as the lug nut is loosened and then quickly when it's loose. Be cautious when tightening lug nuts using an impact as it's easy to over torque them—which can stretch or even strip the threads.
A standard lug wrench is all that's needed to remove a tire, but if you are looking for speed and convenience (and, let's face it, a chance to pretend like you're in a NASCAR pit crew) get an impact wrench.
