Mortgage interest rates continue to be at an all-time low, and as a result - alongside other factors - housing inventory is also at an all-time low. Based on this chart from FreedieMac (http://www.freddiemac.com/pmms/pmms30.html) we can see our current sub 3% mortgage interest rate creating a dip that hasn't occurred at all over the last 30-years. Because of low-interest rates for mortgages and high-rate occupancy rates in the major cities and suburbs, it is cheaper for many to enter into homeownership; monthly mortgage payments being a lesser burden than rent. As long as rates and inventory stay low, it will continue to be a seller's market in our major cities as properties are spending less time on the MLS.
