BELLEFONTE, Pa. - Jan. 20, 2021 - The award is named for Roland Tibbetts, acknowledged as the father of the SBIR program. Winners are selected by a panel of judges based on the economic impact of their technological innovation, how they supported federal research and development needs, and their ability to increase commercialization of federal research.
"The Actuated Medical Team is honored to be recognized with the SBA 2020 Tibbetts Award. Our NeuralGlider Inserter was initially funded with an NIH SBIR with follow on funding from the Brain Initiative. NeuralGlider allows the implantation of fine and delicate neural implants to precise locations in the brain. Its clinical applications will enable a person with a prosthetic the ability to control the motion with their brain or allow implants that turn off the symptoms of debilitating diseases such as Parkinson's. The SBIR program has been instrumental in bringing this technology to the research community. We look forward to taking the system out into clinical use soon.
