DETROIT - Jan. 11, 2021 - On January 20, U.S. citizens will inaugurate their 46th president. And while presidents and other elected officials serve their country as leaders and policymakers, they aren't the only ones who can affect change.
Everyday people make extraordinary contributions to our society regardless of age or occupation.
Empowered Flower Girl, a social enterprise that empowers youth and youth advocates to live above life's drama and make a powerful difference, is inviting people of all ages to join its If I Were President campaign and share their ideas to make an impact in their homes, schools, communities and beyond.
The campaign culminates on Monday, January 18, MLK Day, with an "inauguration" event where participants will share their ideas and celebrate and support one another to make them a reality.
"Throughout the month of January, we will explore ways youth can tackle and solve issues in their communities as well as support and resources available to them," said Rasheda Kamaria Williams, founder and chief empowering officer for Empowered Flower Girl.
Two participants will be selected during the event to receive $100 to support their initiatives.
The event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is required. Visit www.ipresidentinauguration.eventbrite.com.
The inauguration event is being hosted as part of Youth Service America's MLK Day of Service initiative. Empowered Flower Girl was among eight Michigan-based organizations awarded a grant from the Michigan Service Squad to carry out service-learning trainings and projects in honor of Dr. King's legacy.
