TAMPA, Fla. - Jan. 7, 2021 - Giver Alarms announced an innovative program to help domestic abuse shelters across the United States equip domestic violence victims with self defense technology. For select Giver burglar alarms, door/window alarms, panic alarms and other security products, Giver plans to donate on a 1-for-1 basis an alarm or other needed security device to domestic violence shelters for distribution directly to abuse survivors. With a goal of 50,000 donations in 2021, the company hopes to achieve it's goal of $750,000 in donations within the calendar year. The alarms can be purchased on Amazon, or directly from GiverAlarms.com.
The CDC reports that more than 1 in 3 women in the United States experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime. When a person leaves an abusive relationship, they often have nowhere to go. For many, the only choices are staying in the abusive environment, going to a shelter or living on the street. Studies show a connection between domestic violence to homelessness, particularly among families with children. Some studies have found domestic violence to be the leading cause of homelessness among women with children. Shelters provide immediate safety, respite and supportive services. Unfortunately, shelters are frequently filled to capacity and often turn away women and their children. Many times people arrive at the shelters with nothing but the clothes on their back, and shelters have a constant need for supplies and funds to help care for victims and equip them to re-emerge from the shelters back into the world.
All 50 states have domestic violence shelters that will receive donations in 2021 from Giver, with the first donations shipping at the end of January 2021. The first shelters chosen to receive donations are :
Sheltering Wings Center For Women (Indiana),
Women's Resource Center, Inc. (Pennsylvania),
Women's Community Inc Of Wausau (Wisconsin),
Bright Future Foundation (Colorado),
Turning Point (Ohio) and more.
Shelters will receive donation boxes which may contain a mix of DIY door alarms, window alarms, panic alarms, motion detectors, and other battery operated security products. Announcements of specific shelter donations will be made monthly at the AwareGiver Facebook page. If you have a specific shelter in need of alarms, you can suggest a shelter at the GiverAlarms.com website.
