A truly International tournament, teams from Canada, Egypt, India, Iceland, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland have participated. It's not just fun and highly competitive flag football games, but lots of action off the field as well. In 2002 the colorfully-named team from Scotland - The Scottish Irish Beasties - danced in the local bars wearing their kilts. "They never paid for one drink.", recalls IWFFA Founder and President Diane Beruldsen.
"The first year (1992)", continues Beruldsen, "there were five teams, The sixth team said they got lost driving to Key West. US1 is a one-lane road and Key West is at the end of the road". In 1995 The National Women's Flag Football Association (NWFFA) was founded followed in 1997 by the International Women's Flag Football Association (IWFFA). The IWFFA introduced Women's Flag Football to Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Afghanistan. By 2001, the largest women's flag football tournament was born with 48 teams - 9 from outside the USA - competed. The IWFFA has been featured on television by the NFL "Football America", BUMP TV, and Lifetime Television. The Kelly McGillis Classic Women & Girls Flag Football Championships have come a long way since 1992, Baby.
