The MC-1 Foundation Announces New Board Members

GOLDEN, Colo. - Dec. 9, 2020 - Current Board Member Dave Swanson has been promoted to Vice President and joining the Board of Trustees as Secretary is Julie Powell. "Both of these Board members embody the spirit of community and bring energy and talent to the table. We are very fortunate to have them by our side as we continue to strengthen our team," states Mark Miller, President of the Foundation.

Swanson, who joined the MC-1 Foundation Board in 2018, succeeds Paul Smoker, MC-1 Foundation Co-Founder and Vice President, who will continue to serve as a General Board Member. "Serving as a General Board Member with MC-1 for the past year and a half has been an amazing experience and I am honored to be appointed as the Vice President of this Foundation," said Swanson. "Our team members have individual experiences and backgrounds, but we have one common goal and that is to show our support for Colorado first responders and their families." Swanson has been instrumental in creating and running the MC-1 online fundraising auctions for the past two years, raising over $30,000 for the Foundation.

Powell, who has been serving as a volunteer with the Foundation since 2018, succeeds Kelly England, as Secretary. "I have enjoyed helping MC-1 with its social media and event coordination and I know that I'll have big shoes to fill in this role as Secretary. Kelly has done so much for the Foundation and I look forward to stepping up to the plate," said Powell. "I am honored to show my support and gratitude for our Colorado First Responders – they help our communities each and every day." Powell has also been an active volunteer in the past with the "I Love U Guys" Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado, and Goodwill Industries of Denver.

"MC-1 is stewarded by a highly engaged and committed Board of Directors," says Jeff Steinhardt, Treasurer of the MC-1 Foundation. "We are thrilled that each of these new Board members offers a variety of expertise and a shared understanding of how local giving can impact the needs of our Colorado Public Service employees."

About the MC-1 Foundation:

The MC-1 Foundation was started as the MC-1 Honor Run, a fundraiser motorcycle ride for the family of Sgt. Dave Baldwin of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (E.O.W. 1/26/14). Sergeant Baldwin, whose radio call sign was MC-1, was killed in the line of duty after being struck on his motorcycle by a wrong-way driver. Since that event, the MC-1 Foundation, which is a 100% volunteer organization, has grown to become a tax-exempt organization under Section 503(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (#47-5206410).

The mission of the Foundation is to provide financial support to public service employees and/or their families in the event that they are hurt or killed while on duty providing service for their communities. In 2019 alone, the Foundation offered assistance to a number of public services employees/families with a total of over $50,000 being donated to those families.
