Emrgy Inc. Awarded $3.6 Million from ARPA-E for Transformational Energy Technology

ATLANTA - Dec. 9, 2020 - Emrgy Inc. announced today that it was awarded $3.6 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). The funding will be used to develop advanced hydrokinetic turbine, power conversion and system-level control designs for both natural riverine and man-made water infrastructure resources.

"We are very excited to participate in ARPA-E's SHARKS program. The funding will be instrumental in both our near- and mid-term product development efforts," said Emily Morris, Emrgy's founder and CEO. "It will enable Emrgy to reach new customers and new applications around the world with our hydrokinetic turbine modules."

"ARPA-E takes pride in funding organizations and technology that can move the needle on clean energy generation at highly cost competitive rates," said Dr. John R. Tuttle, Emrgy's Chief Strategy Officer and the Principal Investigator on Emrgy's SHARKS Project. "Emrgy has the opportunity to transform its already cost-competitive technology platform into a superior, higher performing, lower-cost game-changer for the growing distributed hydropower market sector."

Emrgy Inc. is a US based technology company focused on development and implementation of scalable distributed hydropower by tapping the intrinsic kinetic energy from flowing water. Emrgy's turbine modules drop into existing canals and rivers without the need for dams or costly construction. The company is currently developing customer installations in multiple sites across North America, Europe, and South Asia.

Emrgy Inc. received this competitive award from ARPA-E's Submarine Hydrokinetic And Riverine Kilo-megawatt Systems (SHARKS) program, to develop new designs for economically competitive Hydrokinetic Turbines (HKT) for tidal and riverine currents.

Emrgy will develop their proprietary hydrokinetic turbines so that they can optimize power generation over a wide range of sites, including varying water flow and depth. The turbines will also be optimized to produce energy with lower flowing water resources. These advances will help customers generate clean, renewable energy for more sites and more challenging installations.
