CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. - Dec. 8, 2020 - Two venues with Mondo tracks have received "Facility of the Year" honors by the American Sports Builders Association, which annually recognizes excellence in sports construction.
ASBA awarded "Outdoor Track Facility of the Year" to the University of Sherbrook, which features a Super X 720 surface. Mondo, the industry leader in sport track innovation and expertise, designed the track to exceed the international standards established by the World Athletics, enabling it to serve as the surface for world-class competitions and high-performance training.
With its vulcanized rubber construction, Super X 720 provides the optimal blend of energy return, comfort, safety, and durability for everything from daily training to the toughest competitions. The surface also is GREENGUARD Gold certified and certified by World Athletics.
Based in Granby, Quebec, Carpell Surfaces, which specializes in the supply and installation of high-performance synthetic surfaces for sports fields, athletics tracks and playgrounds, installed the track.
The second ASBA award went to the Gately Indoor Track and Field complex, which won "Indoor Track Facility of the Year" honors. Located in Chicago's Pullman neighborhood, this facility -- certified by World Athletics, enabling it to host wold-class competitions -- boasts the area's first hydraulically banked 200-meter track. The push of a button raises the track's curves in minutes to the desired height for competitions or training sessions. This track also features a Super X 720 surface.
Kiefer U.S.A., a Chicago-based leader in the supply and installation of athletic surfacing, lead the team that installed the Mondo variable banked hydraulic track system.
ASBA, of which Mondo is a member, is the national organization for builders, designers and suppliers of materials for athletic facilities. Awards are presented each year to facilities built by ASBA members that best exemplify construction excellence. A panel of ASBA members anonymously judge entries. Projects are scored individually based on considerations such as layout and design, site work, drainage, base construction, surface, amenities, innovation and overall impression. Winning entries' cumulative scores meet or exceed the standard.
