BALLINA, Australia - Dec. 2, 2020 - Mr. Mahmood Khan, an International path-breaking musician, whose songs have been on the No.1 spot on both Billboard charts and iTunes in 7 countries, had released a solo album titled "Only One' in the United States of America, in 1997, wherein, a song featuring the Late Mr. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, namely 'Teri Yaad' became an instant hit all around the world. Since the song was extraordinary, it became extremely popular with the masses. Even though the song is associated with the name of Mr. Mahmood Khan, Mr. Mahmood Khan recently gained knowledge that Bollywood Producer, Mr. Firoz Nadiadwala, and Music Director, Mr. Anu Malik, had blatantly copied the entire song along with its title "Teri Yaad" and reproduced it in a movie titled as 'Kartoos' in the year 1999.
At present, both Mr. Firoz Nadiadwala and Mr. Anu Malik, are already having legal issues, due to which, they are fighting their own respective battles and instead of the situation becoming any better for either of them, another legal issue pertaining to blatant violation of Intellectual Property Rights, has surfaced against them. As Mr. Mahmood Khan is assured of the existence of copyright infringement in the present case, Mr. Mahmood Khan has sent a Legal Notice demanding Indian Rupees Thirty Crores ( approx 4 Million UD) in damages, both from Mr. Firoz Nadiadwala and Mr. Anu Malik for not only violating the Copyright Laws but also making illegal profits by copying the composition of Mr. Mahmood Khan.
It would be interesting to see if the present case would again bring the issue of stringent enforcement of application of Copyright Laws to the forefront, which to date is yet to be achieved in our society.
