COPPEROPOLIS, Calif. - Nov. 20, 2020 - Mental Health and Recovery Counseling Education and Training (MHRCET), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has joined GivingTuesday by launching the Give-A-Gift campaign on December 1, 2020. Supporters are invited to participate by donating to the cause which helps individuals and families deal with and manage mental health conditions during the pandemic.
"The Give-A-Gift campaign allows MHRCET to offer a safe way for individuals, communities, and organizations to engage in philanthropy, build hope and faith among those who need assistance," stated Devon Toonen, President & CEO of MHRCET. Donor funds will help build MHRCET's online TeleCafé community, a platform providing peer support from individuals with lived experience, mental health professionals, and industry leading guest speakers."
COVID-19 has affected the mental health of millions nationwide, with contributing factors including isolation, loss of jobs, fear of the disease, bereavement, and uncertainty about the future. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), "The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted or halted critical mental health services in 93% of countries worldwide while the demand for mental health is increasing. People with pre-existing mental, neurological or substance use disorders are also more vulnerable to SARS-CoV-2 infection ̶ they may stand a higher risk of severe outcomes and even death."
"While we continue to address day-to-day challenges directly related to the pandemic, we believe providing additional support during this time will have a significant impact on individual and family mental wellness. Our objective is to provide a platform supporting individuals of all ages throughout the pandemic while we continue to be socially responsible," states Mrs. Toonen.
