Niagara Church Abuse Activist To Protest Three Catholic Locations In Toronto Thursday

TORONTO - Oct. 21, 2020 - Niagara Church Abuse activist William O'Sullivan is taking his message to three locations affiliated with the Catholic Church in Toronto, Thursday October 22, 2020. He is calling for a public inquiry into the Catholic Church Abuse Scandal to determine how communities across Canada have been impacted by the sexual predation of children by priests for decades. He commissioned the formal petition which has been accepted by MP Vance Badaway in The House Of Commons formally requesting the inquiry. This winter he plans on walking to Ottawa in an effort to raise awareness and garner public support for the public inquiry.
He will begin his three location protest Thursday at the Archdiocese of Toronto at 1155 Yonge St mid morning, moving at midday to Basilian Fathers at 95 St. Joseph St, followed by St Michael's College at 1515 Bathurst St mid afternoon.

The recent allegations made against Basilian Fathers in Toronto inspired him to take his message to the city.'This is yet another example of how priests were involved in systemic predation of children not just in Niagara, but all over Canada -that's why we need a public inquiry. How did they get away with it so long? How much did it cost Canadian communities all these years in mental health, addiction and social services dealing with all these broken adults? Not to mention the heartbreaking human costs to victims and families.' said O'Sullivan

O'Sullivan is one of several Niagara survivors of ongoing sexual abuse by notorious convicted priest Donald Grecco of St Kevin's Parish Church on Niagara Street in Welland Ontario. He has been protesting outside the church every Sunday for over 111 weeks.

Since he started his protest, a group of supporters have joined him in popup protests across the Niagara Region educating the public about the sexual abuse and trafficking of minors in an effort to assist in prevention and helping survivors access local resources. He also makes himself available to schools, prisons and public officials to speak about the role childhood sexual trauma plays in adult issues like mental health and addiction and the strain it puts on families and communities.

He hopes others will join him in Toronto Thursday as many do in his pop up protests in Niagara where he has garnered outstanding support. Niagara police receive at least one call per day pertaining to child abuse. His protests have inspired marches with speeches from local public figures and officials across the region calling for the legal prioritization of protecting children from adult predation. He hopes to see similar momentum build in Toronto.
