Dear Mr. Trump: I'm Sorry (Opinion)

PORTLAND, Ore. - Oct. 2, 2020 - Hello Mr. President,

I'm not anyone special. I'm just an ordinary person, a regular citizen in the nation over which you currently preside. But I've decided today to take it upon myself to say some things that I'm not certain anyone has ever said to you in your entire life — things that I feel in my heart that you need to hear. I hope somehow you hear them.

I'm sorry for all that you've been through.

I'm sorry for the torturous existence you've had to live, born into a cruel life of entitlement and forced to struggle for acceptance and love from everyone around you. That your life has been nothing but a constant fight for the survival of your own ego against an onslaught of assailants telling you that you aren't good enough. That you were taught to build your value on the outside instead of from within, and that only through manifestations of material wealth could you ever demonstrate to the world that your name was a name worth speaking.

I'm sorry that everyone in your orbit either enabled you in your Sisyphean struggle for acceptance or took advantage of you and found benefit instead in leading you by the nose to your own failures. I know not the truth of which decisions and actions are your own and which are mandated to you from others, but I know there has to be a percentage of the latter, and for every decision forced onto you that is against your true conscience I am sorry. I truly wish there are at least a few people that you could count on to call your friends, but am afraid of the truth of that scenario.

But most of all I'm sorry that you are likely lying in immense pain right now, and that the pain in your heart is likely orders of magnitude larger than any pain your body may be feeling.

I truly do not wish what you are going through onto any other human, ever again in history.

If I can see this, I know many others can. You have made your pain felt through your actions, and by now an entire nation is reeling from the massive fissure that an uncaring world and a horrible materialistic culture rendered into your soul.

I only have one wish for you, Mr. President: that your soul finds peace.
