BALTIMORE - Oct. 1, 2020 - Despite the impact of COVID-19 and the effect that it has had on some food service establishments in the state of Maryland, The Land of Kush has established partnerships with local businesses to remain afloat. The pandemic has challenged the restaurant with securing ingredients for some of its favored menu items such as their award-winning crab cakes and the vegan milkshakes. As a response, partnerships with local businesses, The Greener Kitchen and Cajou Creamery have been established to replace these missing ingredients.
This past summer, the vegan soul food establishment teamed up with a local neighborhood, veg-friendly restaurant, Golden West Cafe, to launch its seventh Maryland Vegan Restaurant Week. With the Land of Kush's 10-year anniversary approaching, Greg Brown and Naijha Wright-Brown, plan to host more socially-safe, monthly events, centered around serving up delicious plant-based food, leading up to the restaurant's decade celebration on January 6, 2021.
"This engagement allows us to deepen our connection with our core audience," Brown says. "It also allows us to build new connections with newer customers. It allows our customers to communicate with each other, with Land of Kush as a centerpiece. It's not just a business for us. We also want to be socially involved in the city even if at a distance. We all know the things that the city is going through, and we want to help to be the facilitators of its change."
The first event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct 3, through a collaboration with Plant Pusher. The Land of Kush is asking folks to try out their newest menu item, Vegan Buffalo Nuggs. Plant Pusher is on a mission to promote the plant-based lifestyle worldwide in an effort to help communities heal from preventable and curable disease. The company promotes plant-based businesses and sells t-shirts with the words "Plant Pusher" imprinted on them. Every shirt sold feeds a free vegan meal to someone in need.
In an effort to feed 100 homeless people in Baltimore free plant-based meals, The Land of Kush hopes to sell a minimum of 100 Vegan Buffalo Nugg Special Combo Platters (entreé, two sides/salads and a 24 oz. drink) priced at $15.49, along with a Plant Pusher t-shirt at a discounted price of $9.99. The Vegan Buffalo Nuggs are available a la carte as are the Plant Pusher t-shirts.
